Katia Paschou’s name is connected with the innovating side of the opera. “An exciting and versatile singer”, New York Review, New York and one of the most prominent sopranos of her native city, Athens, Greece, Katia has always been hailed for the “quality of her voice in combination with her dramatic presentation...”, Greek News, New York. Her rich warm and pure tone, her clean and clear coloratura in combination with her glowing engaging stage presence has always won the heart of her audiences.

 

Katia’s credits include the Onassis Foundation Scholarship, her Carnegie Hall debut as a winner of the Artists International Presentation, NYC, a special prize for the roles of Adina in L’ Elisir d’ amore and Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro in  Torino, Italy. She has collaborated with acclaimed orchestras, as the State Orchestra of Athens and the ERT Greek Radio Ochestra, and in 2012 she appeared as a performer-speaker at the TEDx Athens: The ones who do.

 

During her activity in the US Katia performed at various venues in productions and concerts, singing the roles of Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La Bohème), Micaela (Carmen), Violetta (La Traviata). In 2009 the internationally acclaimed bass Dimitri Kavrakos invited Katia to sing in concerts in his honor in prestigious summer festivals around Greece.

 

In 2011-12 Katia appeared as Valencienne at the National Greek Opera’s production of the Merry Widow, and was praised for the sauciness and youthful vitality of her presence (To pontiki, Athens). In 2013 Katia sang with great success the part of Adele in the production of the Fledermaus, and in 2014 she returned as Musetta in Puccini's La Boheme. In 2015 she is perfoming the role of Papagena in the Magic Flute with the NGO.

 

Since 2010, eager to reach out to new audiences, Katia created a series of alternative opera projects. The broad activity of her pojects covered areas from interactive educational family programs to street opera happenings and special appearances in clubs. Katia’s ideas and projects have changed the perception about opera in her native city, projecting her refreshing performances and looks. Her dynamic collaboration with the hip hop group NEBMA in Heaven Music’s production “Nuit d’étoiles” has attracted the interest of the international pop music industry for its unique quality and vibe. 

 

In 2015 Katia created as a residence artist at the Theocharakis Foundation "The Katia Paschou Project", a unique opera group and educational program for emerging artist of the classical music.

 

Equally interested in new music in 2018 Katia Paschou launced as a singer and producer "Leto's Song", a work based on Leto Katakouzenos book "Aggelos Katakouzenos". - read more www.katakouzenos.gr

Katia Paschou holds a BA in Theatre Studies from the University of Athens, School of Philosophy and a Diploma in Voice from Mannes College of Music, NYC.
